Communities for the Education of Every Child NC

  • IDENTITY

We are a community-led, statewide coalition of organizations, parents, teachers, and students who advocate for every child’s constitutional right to a sound, basic education.

  • MISSION

Our work focuses on promoting equity so that race, ethnicity, economic background, regional location, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation, immigration status, and language are not barriers to educational opportunity.

  • VISION

Our vision is that all students, particularly underserved and vulnerable student groups, receive the funding and supports they need to realize the education that was promised to them.

We advocate for adequate public school funding and fair policy.

  • We work collaboratively, guided by the experience and insight of the people working directly with student groups and communities facing the greatest challenge.

  • We build partnerships across the state to mobilize community leaders, parents, students, educators, advocates, and elected officials.

  • We promote the necessary changes in funding and policy in the following categories:

Early Childhood Education

Expand early learning opportunities and support for all children before age 5 to ensure they begin kindergarten on equal footing and ready to learn.

Teaching and Leadership

Improve the quality and diversity of our teaching force and our principals by expanding investments in proven preparation and mentoring programs, and making pay competitive with respect to other professions.

Opportunity Gap

Fulfill student needs by expanding support personnel such as nurses, counselors, psychologists, and social workers, and targeting additional resources to the schools and districts that are facing the greatest challenges.

Student Assessment and School Accountability

Create a more balanced and student-centered testing system, limiting the extent to which our school accountability system stigmatizes schools with a higher proportion of students with academic risk factors.

Career Readiness

Strengthen the ties between K-12 schools, post-secondary experience, and future careers via expanded workforce skill development, counseling, and dual credit opportunities.

You can help reshape the future of our public schools — and the future of EVERY CHILD.
